Its been three games, so its time to over react and see who is the next GOAT and who is an absolute bust.
The Big Three
Three Quarterbacks were taken in the Top 5 of the draft, lets see who has performed the best in the early part of the season.
Cameron Hopkins – NYJ
58/84 (69%) 778 Yards 5 TD 7 INT
Well Hopkins hasn’t exactly dominated but he also doesn’t have the easiest schedule. Outside of the veteran Adam Thielen, I don’t think anyone would recognize the Jets receivers by name. Max Eichenberg did earn dev early in the season and could develop into a solid WR2, but for now Hopkins is doing what he can with what he has.
Tyrell Jefferson – MIN
42/64 (65.6) 782 Yards 6 TD 6 INT
Drawing Big Ben comparisons, Jefferson is a big tall QB who has the arm talent to place it anywhere on the field, regardless of which team is occupying that space. The real surprise for Jefferson is that while his play has been somewhat inconsistent, the Vikings are 2-1 to start the season, and have 2 fairly easy matchups against a struggling Rams team and a Bears team they already beat. They very well could be 4-1 heading into their bye which will spark the confidence of Tyrell.
Nick Escobar – SF
51/99 51.5% 864 Yards 5 TD 15 INT
Holy shit. I have no words for what is happening in San Francisco. 0-3, 5 interceptions a game.
Verdict: Tyrell Jefferson is literally a HOF-er
The Best Receiver Class Ever
There have been some early dominant performances by some of the rookie receivers across the league. The two speed demons both sit top 5 in rookie yards, but there have been some other surprises thus far.
Pierre Griffin – BAL
Griffin started strong week 1 with 185 yards and 2 scores against the Bungles. He’s followed this up with 2 more scores on the year and a 96 yard performances against Denver.
Ron Capps – DET
While the Lions are literally the worst team in Top History, Caps had a 209 yard 1 TD performance against the Steelers defense this week. The downside for Capps, 6 drops on the season so far, so plenty of room for improvement.
Lonnie Sherels – SEA
Lonnie has only improved this year. After a 90 yard performanced against Houston, he drops 157 on the niners and 2 scores. In fact, the third round pick has scored in every game this season.
D-Fense
Do-it-All-Denario
The Saints first round rookie cornerback, Denario Foster has provided some use in an area no one expected. Foster is tied at the top of the rookie sack chart with 3, including a 2 sack and fumble recovery performance against the falcons. The Saints, who have played exclusively NFC South opponents have found a way to use their young talent in creative ways to get to 2-1 on the season.
James Feliz, DET
Feliz drops 3 sacks against the vikings and a forced fumble to boot. The superstar dev edge rusher is a piece the Lions have lacked for years now and continuing this dominance will be huge in securing the next lions top 5 pick.
Tyquan Cadet, NYG
Roquon Smith, Devin White, and now…Tyqan Cadet. The freak athlete and first round draft pick has made his presence known early with 2 forced turnovers in 3 games. The Giants are 3-0 atop the NFC E and Cadet is absolutely ballin out.
