Conference Championship Preview

This week not only features the best of the best facing off for the trophy case and a spot in the CFP, they have also already played each other this season. Let’s take a trip down S1 memory lane as we look at these rematches primed for a great week of Top CFP.

ACC: Florida St vs Virginia Tech

A late night, late season matchup, this game is fresh on the minds. VT had a quiet start to the season, and a loss against Georgia Tech looked to have been the final blow on their season. Clemson rebounded with a win against Clemson in a highly touted matchup and a win against Florida St. The offensive identity is to run the football with Kyron and the power back, but FSU is a team that at it’s best can score at will. I think back to the 30-2 deficit with 9 minutes left against NC State that they somehow over came to remain unbeaten at the time. This game is on neutral field, so it will be the best against the best. Two high profile quarterbacks. Two high profile users.

Prediction: Florida State 42 Virginia Tech 35

B1G: Maryland vs Ohio State

Unfortunately due to an ill timed September vacation, this game will be a force for Maryland. Ohio State seems to have a safe spot in the CFP, but we will recognize his season as undefeated in the Top books should he go on to win the CFP. Maryland however, had a tough road having to win 2 conference matchup via overtime defense (Texas Tech and Michigan). Hemby being healthy will be key to their CFP run, congrat to the B1G champion Danny.

PAC 12: UCLA vs Arizona St

This is my must watch game. PTown vs Warren. The best user in Top history vs the most insane user in Top history. Sam Leavitt is genuinely unhinged and this offense has got the IT factor. They face a UCLA team that has been battle tested, but have to win their games off the user finding ways to overcome versus pure dominance. I can’t tell you how many UCLA games I watched this year that were tied half way through the third quarter. That being said, that was the regular season, and now a trophy is on the line. Arizona St ran away with the first matchup, but can the Bruins keep it close enough to strike the final blow.

Prediction: UCLA 52 Arizona St 48

SEC: Texas vs Georgia

UGA handed Texas their only lost on what might be the best field goal of the season. On the road, on the hash, squiggly line be damned. That being said, UGA hasn’t been themselves. A big time loss to Tennessee followed by Georgia Tech, UGA needs to re-focus if they are going to deliver the upset again. Trey Moore enters this week with more than one trophy on mind, as the Heisman front-runner could completely seal his case this week. It will be Defense vs Defense, QB vs QB for the Top spot in the SEC.

Prediction: Texas 35 UGA 24
